I have been to quite a few places on this list. Lucerne by far has been my favorite. I missed that chateau in Zurich though and this post definitely makes me regret it. Rhine falls too, was amazing – loved how close you can get to the water fall there. And of course, it is a great place for photographers.
On our first visit to Switzerland we picked a few places to see. And quickly discovered that one trip was not going to be enough. We made it to Interlaken but only saw Jungfrau and the Matterhorn way off in the distance. One day we need to head back and explore this whole mountain region. We loved visiting the Rhine Falls and Schaffhausen. But want to enjoy more of the small towns. Lots of reasons to plan a return trip.
This was the perfect post for me to read today as my husband and I have just decided that Switzerland is our next European destination to explore. I’m so excited to go — have always wanted to see Lucerne and Geneva Lake — oh, and the Matterhorn, too. And then you threw in some places I hadn’t heard of, so now I’m adding them to my list as well!
I have only been to Lucerne in Switzerland so this article really got me excited about exploring more of the country. There are so many jaw dropping natural areas and cities. Thanks for the inspiration
I have been to all the places you mentioned in Switzerland and agree – they are great places for tourists. Except for the Botanical garden in Genevea. It is nice – but just another Botanical garden. Nothing special and in my opinion definitely not one of the best places in Switzerland.
I’ve been on a train ride from Austria to Zurich and loved seeing the scenery here. San Moritz and the Matterhorn looks absolutely stunning and the nature is insanely beautiful! We were near Lugano in spring, and I would like to return to explore fully.
With such stunning vistas and beautiful cities, it’s no wonder Switzerland is one of the 10 happiest countries in the world! As someone who loves natural scenery, I would especially love to visit the Jungfraujoch Observatory, Lake Lugano, and of course, the Matterhorn. It would be fun to tour the botanical gardens, as well! In fact, it would make me very happy to visit most of these places in Switzerland.
I’ve been dying to visit Switzerland, but you’re right that I had no idea it was one of the happiest countries in the world! Maybe I’ll just move there instead then. 🙂 I cannot even believe the view of Lake Geneva. It looks straight out of an oil painting.
We are planning a trip to Switzerland this March! We’d love to ski and snowshoe St Moritz and soak up the city life in Bern. Rhinefall might be glorious with a touch of ice too.
