Introduction: Surfing In Hawaii And Choosing The Right Gears.

Hawaii is one of the greatest places for surfing because the wave is steeply perfect and challenging. The North Shore, Banza Pipeline, has many surfing competitions, such as the Bolcorn Pipe Pro and The Pipeline Bodysurfing Classic.

The best of all is the Vans Triple Crown of surfing between November and December. The best time to surf is between November and February because it is the big wave season. You can see people surf at this time of the year.  If you are lucky enough, you can enjoy a good surf while learning from the professionals.

All you need is the right equipment and gears for surfing in Hawaii to ride the wave like a champion. Thus, we made it easier for you and selected the best surfing gear and equipment. Build your list and enjoy your surfing trip because you get all that you need in this article.

    1. Surfboard:

Woddtery Lightweight Bodyboard, 33/37/41" Body Boards for Beach with Wrist Leash Comfort EPS Core, XPE Deck, HDPE Slick Bottom Kids Adult Surfing Board

It is important to make research on the optimal surfboard to have a better surfing experience in Hawaii. As a matter of fact, choosing the right surfboard depends on your surfing experience, weather condition, the design of the surfing board, your fitness level, weight, and height. Surfing in Hawaii is challenging because the wave is bigger compared to other places.

For a large wave like the one in Hawaii, you need a surfboard that is a bit thicker and wider than a normal surfboard to exceed strength and momentum. Therefore, you have a  better balance and surf on top of the waves freely without any complications.

When you go to the shop to buy a board you should ask them, which surfboard is a better fit for you and the condition where you will surf. On the bottom, we made a few suggestions for the best surfboard on amazon that you can use in Hawaii.

    2. Surfboard Leash:

Abahub Premium Surfboard Leash, 6/7/8/9/10 ft, Straight Surf Board Leashes, 6/7mm Legrope Strap

The surfing board leach comes in a variety of colors and sizes. You can choose the color you like and match it with your surfing board. However, it is important to choose the right length. The length that you should pick is as long as your surfing board or slightly longer.

You should also thing about the strength and durability of the leach. The ABAHUB leach in the picture above contains anti-corrosive steel swivels that allow it to maintain its length and avoid being tangled. It is made for medium and small waves, which is perfect for beginners who want to surf the wave of Hawaii.

    3. Wetsuit:

XUKER Women Men Wetsuit 2mm 3mm, Neoprene Wet Suits Front/Back Zip in Cold Water Full Body Dive Suit for Surfing

Choosing the right suit goes beyond picking up your favorite colors. You should also consider your body shape. Whether your hip is wider than your shoulder or your shoulder is wider. It is important so you have a comfortable feel when you surf the waves of Hawaii.

The surfing wetsuit can help you endure and protect you from the hot heat, UV light radiation, and cold weather. However, the weather in Hawaii is warm all year long, so you should consider a swimsuit that helps you to endure an average hot weather.

    4. Wetsuit Shoes/Socks:

When walking around the Hawaiian beach, you should bring with you a shoe or sock to wear. There are many wetsuit’s shoes and socks that can fit perfectly with your swimsuit. You should consider them to protect your feet from the UV radiation and the hot heat of the sun.

    5. Surfing Cap:

    Speedo Unisex-Adult Swim Cap Silicone

It is a good idea to have a surfing cap to keep your hair together. Especially if your hair is long, you can prevent it from strangling or covering your eyes. This way so you can see better and avoid any complications that affect your surfing experience.

The water on the beach of Hawaii is not salty, but it is good to have a surfing cap for other occasions to protect your hair from water slanty and chlorine.

    6. Swim Fins:

Cressi Adult Snorkeling Full Foot Pocket Fins - Good Thrust, Light Fin

You should select fins that are lightweight and compact. They are easier to walk by and travel around. You should also consider a high-quality product for longevity use.

The wave in Hawaii is usually steep, so you defiantly need one. During surfing, the wave can suck you in. Sometimes, it is strong enough to pull you inside the ocean. Therefore, the fin can help you swim against the wave and get back to the sea shore.

    7. Board Bag:

A protective cover for your surfboard is probably the best decision you would make. The UV light and dings can leave yellow marks on the board. Over time, excessive exposure can tear it down and damage it. Thus, it is better to be safe than sorry.

Some have a pocket where you can hide your belonging such as keys or snacks.

The XUKER wet suit is adorable, and so flattering! I didn’t realize there were such stylish options for surfing, and I would definitely want this one. I also love the sand-free towel, not just for surfing, but for any beach day. The storage pocket makes it especially handy. I wouldn’t have thought of a waterproof smart watch – that is indeed very smart!

Those all look like the perfect accessories to have a fun day at the beach here in Hawaii with all the right things to have here. The only thing missing is all the good food and drinks you can enjoy on the beach for a fun beach day.

So I realize there are people who have fun when the waves are big..

The surfing gears mentioned can also be used when surfing here in the Philippines since we have big waves too.

I used to have a snorkling fin coz I did freediving but I donated it to a charity organization so they can teach more people to freedive.

I have to admit Im not a fan of big waves though, I experienced big waves once when I was in a small boat traversing El Nido to Coron in Palawan and I almost died 🤪.. great adventure in the book of life though.

I have read so many things about Hawaii and surfing but I have never tried. It’s true that my home country, Romania, is fairly far away from Hawaii, but reading this about surfing triggers all my interests. It seems that I will need to research and learn so many interesting things about this sport.

We are headed to Hawaii soon. We surely want to watch the great surfing in Hawaii – even if we don’t intend to join in the fun. It was interesting to see all the gear needed for the surfers. A sand free beach towel would be great to have to settle onto the beach and watch the surf show!
