Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea and one of the best European Islands. Here is why it made the top places to visit in Italy. It offers some cultural and historical arts all around the island.

Mount Etna is an active volcano located in the heart of the Sicilian island, and it is as high as 10,000 feet. It becomes the tallest volcano in Europe.

Valle Dei Templi is one of the remaining ancient Greek temples that have an interesting story to tell and hidden rich history.

Taormina town is another great location in Sicily. It has an ancient theater and breathtaking views of the town from Volcanic Mount Etna and the Ionian Sea. Syracuse is famous for its high-quality entertainment from the theater, arts, and galleries.

Not to forget, Marsala town that is famous for its genuine win and the dock of Giuseppe Garibaldi. Savoca in Sicily is the location where the famous film, God Father, was filmed.

Thus, you can explore the location and learn some more facts about the film. Perhaps take some pictures. This is only a few of the things to do and places to visit in Sicily.

There are more places to explore and to discover, such as San Vito Lo Capo, Mondello, Gole Alcantara Botanical and Geological Park. I will leave it about you to check them out.

    2. Alberobello Village:

Alberobello village is an Apulia region in southern Italy. It is famous for its unique small stone huts that build similarly to an igloo house. It is known as Trullo. Furthermore, it is made of a rock called Limestone.

The reason why it was built is that it is made as a shelter for farmers and a storage unit back in the day.  It is beautifully made and carefully constructed, which is pleasing to the eyes.

The Trulli of Alberobello was assigned as a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its rich ancient history. To learn more about Trulli Of Alberobello and about its ancient history, you should visit Casa Pezzolla Museum.

There are many beaches close by The Alverobello Village, such as Capitolo Beaches that has a beautiful spot to enjoy some water activities. It is also close to many shopping areas and resturants. You can try the famous dish “focaccia barese.”

If you ever visit Alberobello Village, you should stay in Grand Hotel LA Chiusa Di Chietri or Grand Hotel Olimpo. They are fancy hotels and close to the attractions mentioned above.

    3. Amalfi Coast:

Amalfi Coast is a beautiful city that is surrounded by sea on one side and by a Mountain on the other side, which creates a beautiful scenery and amazing weather. It is one of the most beautiful and most crowded cities in Italy, so accommodation is a bit higher compared to other cities.

If you are an adrenaline junkie who likes to take a risk climbing the Monti Lattari Mountains or like to have a quiet moment at the beach, there is a spot for you in Amalfi Coast city. Some Prefer to relax at the beach and drink the famous traditional drink called Limoncello.

Others may prefer to hike The Path Of Gods to have a beautiful view of the city and the shoreline. There are many other paths extended uphill, but the path of Gods is the most famous hiking trail on Amalfi Coast.

    4. Pompeii And Mount Vesuvius:

Pompeii is an ancient city that is located outside Naples and by the Mount of Vesuvius. The city and Mount Vesuvius are the best places to visit in Italy for many reasons. The first reason is that it is considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The second reason is that it gives you an idea of what Rome life is all about back in the day. In other words, it is culturally and ecologically significant when it comes to the Roman ancient life, such as the large amphitheater.

Not to forget, the Antiquarium Museum in Pompeii that has some artifacts dating back to the Roman era.

The Temple Of Jupiter and the forum are other great places to visit and learn more about Roman ancient life. The forum is surrounded by temples and Roman old buildings that are mesmerizing to the eyes.

I highly recommend visiting Mount Vesuvius and hiking its beautiful trail for an amazing view of the city of Pompeii. Some also prefer rock climbing the mountain. You should definitely visit Mt. Vesuvius National Park and swim at lake Vesuvius.

Italy is such a great country to visit. I have been there many times and visited most of the places on your list. Bagnoregio is such an incredible village, I was there 15 years ago when it wasn’t yet on the touristic map. I travel to Italy very often, my next trip will be to Venice for the third time. I’m looking forward to it!

Nice to read a post about where I live! You really can’t go wrong with any of the places you listed. We live near Venice and Garda and it’s two places I never get bored of seeing.

We love to visit Italy and have been a few times. Several on your list are ones we have visited and loved. And long to return to. But Sicily is very high on our list of places we have yet to see. From Mt Etna to the dock of Guiseppe Garibaldi will keep us engaged for several weeks in Sicily. We will also have to check out Civita Di Vagnoregio and see this “dying city”. It looks like an amazing spot high on the hill. Can’t wait to get back to Italy.

I love Italy and have been to it many times, but I haven’t had the opportunity to reach the Sicily you mentioned. This is a beautiful island that I want to see because of the Mount Etna volcano. On your list, I love Tuscany the most, its beautiful towns and vineyards, and the Cinque Terre. It is one of the most beautiful places in Europe for me. And, of course, Rome is unique for its historical and monumental value. You created a great list of places worth seeing in Italy, a very inspiring article.
