It has been far too long since my last visit to Texas. I think of ranches but not really that the Rocky Mountains are in the state. I can see that means I need to add a visit to the Davis Mountains State Park to see for myself. Hiking in the solitude would be right up my alley. And I will remember my hiking gear!

Davis Mountains State Park sounds like a great park to visit. I like that you have so many opportunities of spending time either hiking, mountain biking, or horse riding. I love hiking so I would love to try one of the trails. Probably Skyline Drive Trail would be my favorite, as it’s quite long but not as difficult as the Indian Lodge Loop Trail. It’s good to know that there are campsites there as well, some with electricity and some with none.

As someone from the northeastern US, I’m always amazed at how foreign the mountain landscapes look in other parts of the country. The Davis Mountains in Texas are no exception! It’s interesting to me that Mount Livermore is the second highest peak in Texas, and that these mountains receive more rain than other areas, allowing a variety of trees and wildlife to comfortably exist. And with an average high temperature of 95-degrees, it’s certainly a climate I could tolerate – especially if a bit of a breeze comes through! I probably wouldn’t be up for walking or biking the difficult trails, but horseback riding could be a fun way to take in the views. And, a night in the Indian Lodge sounds just perfect.
